Live shots from the 7″ Vinyl Launch Party at The Northern in Byron Bay, thanks to the rockin’ Andy Raberg for the pictures.
It comes faster every year. The end of the year comes faster and faster, every year! It’s been a massive one on the Bee train, half the world and most of this country (OZ) covered, finally something printed to vinyl, and now a secret summer project, of which details will emerge…….
This Friday see’s the last band show for the 7″ Vinyl Tour, and it has been a blast. The band is crackling hot, the emotions are running high, and it will be a grand way to send out the year of gigging with a home town show. The gig is at The Northern, one of the last bastions of rock’n'roll on the east coast. The place has a soundsystem that would put most festivals to shame, a band room that is smeared in history, and all round rockin’ coastal folk running it. I’ve got my strange and loveable friends Swamprattt opening the night. They make a noise like boys trapped in boxes, but who decided to have an electro/disco/spazzo/synthed out dance party in the said boxes. I like. Then the epic, reverb drenched Little Casino will melt your ear cavaties with uber melodies and all time guitar lines. Oh, yes!
Me and the boys have been cooped up in a beach house jamming out the sound, competing with the waves and the northerly winds, getting all kinds of fun going on, and really, just falling in love like good bands do. So, if you’re close by, sneak down THIS FRIDAY DEC 2nd, The Great Northern, in the BACKROOM (sounds like it is!) grab some vinyl, a t-shirt, a couple drinks, your partner (or find one) and we will have a good, good, good time! From 9pm.
It’s been a tough week, I’ll tell you that. I had to spend the whole time jamming with my new friends Saloons in a house on the beach, overlooking smoking 1 ft waves while I listened to their harp, keys, tribal beats and sweet acoustic guitar. Dang.
The Mullum Music Festival hits the biggest little town in Australia this weekend, and I’m stoked to be playing the Civic Hall Stage on Saturday. This festival you really have to see to understand, the quaint little town of Mullumbimby turns into a thumping music strip, 7 venues up and down the main road, with a psychadelic double decker magic bus to get you where you need to go! Muso’s stacked on muso’s (which may not look pretty in your minds) sound awesome if you’re strolling about.
Then after that, I’ll be rolling into my last show for the year! Exciting and scary to have a break from the road, it’s been so good to me this year, although, I may sneak out for a NYE jam somewhere, so stay tuned. I’ll be recording all summer, by the waves, so there’ll be plenty of beach candy and videos I’ll share round. ‘Til then, x, M.
In these hectic days of life, it’s been sweet touring the country and promoting that old school touch of music, from the AM ABC stations, to the cool cut community radio, vinyl is something that still impresses people. The shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane were a blast! My handsome hairy Bee band is absolutely rocking it, and this weekend at Mullum Music Fest we hit the huge Civic Hall Stage at 6pm, sure to make an epic wall of emotional times.
In other news for the day, ‘Sound Of Love’ is now available on iTunes, AND from your iPhones you can download that tasty hook as your ringtone, go on, you know you want it. Thanks to all the rad folk I’ve met and played to over the last 2 months, it’s been one fun tour de force!
Check in soon for recording news, sneak peeks, a new video, and just to say hullo.
Welcome. This is a place that can hopefully fulfil in web terms what it is that happens on stage and in music for me.
Currently I’m on tour with Pete Murray and Busby Marou, and truth be told, we are having a great time. I met Pete in Byron Bay last year as I played my rawcus noise at certain watering holes, and all credit to the man (and my ego) he got it, got into it and asked me to come on this tour. The Busby Marou boys have taken me under their wing, and from being a little orphan on the road, I’ve become a welcome orphan…… that was until I started writing on their shirts and text books……. but I’ll make it up to them.
I’ve just released the single ‘Sound Of Love’, and I’m stoked to be flying into Byron tomorrow and picking up the limited edition 7″ vinyl pressing of the the little disc. Real music stuck to real wax. If you make a cone out of paper and run it around a record (a real one) you can hear the song singing out. That makes me happy.
We have 10 more shows on this Pete Murray tour and then I hit the coast on my own tour to share the aforementioned 7″ vinyl of Sound Of Love/She Said. I’m bringing some good friends to play drums, bass and if the stars align, even some keys. I can’t wait to hit the stage and make some NOISE!
So, I’m glad you’ve found this, let’s stay in touch, and I’ll see you round this great world sometime soon….. M.
